What is your standard size range?

We can make any size, but our standard range is from 4ft to 7’6”

I have a big deep horse, will the rug fit?
A
Yes all the rugs are cut with extra depth for just this problem, we use special fabric at over two metres wide so the outdoor and stable layers have no seams.

My horse is wide, will the rug fit?
A
Yes, it should. If you find it doesn’t then ring one of our advisers and they will help you get a Tri-Shield that will either by getting a bigger size or by having a made to measure.

How do the rugs attach together?
A
The rugs are initially fastened together with press fasteners around the shoulders and back of the rug. Once the rug is on the horse the unique front fastening holds all layers securely together.

Does it have leg straps?
A
No, we found that cross surcingles worked better and that legs straps were not popular with consumers.

Why have the Stable and Universal layers not got gussets?
A
We tried to give all three rugs gussets in testing. It plainly did not work, it was far to bulky. Instead we put small cut away, leg arch sections around the front legs to create the best fit and allow the outdoor gusset to work correctly.

Will the leather go hard?
A
No, we use the finest leather to ensure this is not a problem. If through indoor drying you find this a problem please use a light leather dressing or a URAD product to recreate a supple leather.

Can you use the layers on their own?
A
Yes, Each of the layers works excellently as individual rugs.

Don’t you have to keep taking the whole thing on and off?
A
No, we find that it is easier to use as when you are bedding your horse down in the evening you only have to remove the top layer.

Does it have a neck cover?
A
Yes, it can attach to both the outdoor and stable layer and has very secure fastenings under the neck, but allowing your horse full range of movement.

Does the rug slip? & What about when the rugs are together?
A
No, during the for years of testing we have found that the rug does not slip at all. If you feel that you would be happier with more straps to ensure this then these can be supplied.

Aren’t there lots of fastenings?
A
No, the Tri-Shield is supplied with a set of completely detachable straps. This means that the fastenings are attached to the outer most rug and the whole system works as a unit.

Don’t the under rugs get wet and dirty?
A
The rugs are designed so that the under rugs are completely covered by the outer rugs, if they do get dirty they are easily washed in a conventional machine.

Will the outdoor rug need re-proofing?
A
No, the coatings on the underside of the fabric ensure you should not need to. The Teflon coating on the outside of the fabric can degrade over time and reduce the amount of 'beading' of water from the rug. Products are available to restore the water repellent finish, the best we have found is Spray On TX Direct By Nik Wax (now available on request from Equine Innovations).

Is the rug breathable?

Yes, the stable and outdoor rugs can evaporate approximately one and a half litres of water per square metre through the rug in twenty four hours.

Is the outdoor rug waterproof?
A
Yes, we go to great lengths to ensure that the rug is waterproof, by taping and sealing all the stitching on the outdoor rug.

What happens if it’s the wrong size when it arrives?
A
The rugs are specifically designed to have an amount of adjustment around the chest area. If the rug is still wrong then we can very easily swap the rug for a bigger or smaller size. If the rug still does not fit then a made to measure service is available.

How long will it take to deliver?
A
If the rug is in stock then we will deliver the following day, if the rug needs to be manufactured then it should take a maximum of 28 working days.

Is it really true that the Ballistic Nylon fabric will heal itself?
A
Yes, the special weave and construction of the fabric ensures that if the rug gets a puncture hole it will close up instead of ripping.

How tough is the Ballistic Nylon?
A
We use a High Tenacity, Self Healing Ballistic Nylon. It also has a special weave that helps to increase the strength of the fibres. This means that if the rug gets a puncture the hole will heal up instead of ripping. If the rug does get a cut then it will not rip further. It’s the same stuff used on the outside of bullet proof vests and motorcycle jackets so it’s incredibly tough!

How are the rugs cleaned?
A
Universal Layer & Stable layer – Can be washed in the washing machine at 40°C with a Non-Biological powder.
The outdoor layer can be washed with a dedicated product such as Nik Wax Rug Wash (available on request from Equine Innovations)at low temperature. Washing fairly regularly using a specialist rug wash will prolong the life of the coatings on the rug and help preserve them; horse sweat can be very acidic!
The straps are entirely detachable and therefore mean that your washing machine will not make a horrible clanking noise when your rugs are being washed!

Does the Tri-Shield rub the horse?
A
During four years of testing we have not found one horse to have been rubbed by the rug, all thge rugs have satinised anti-rub shoulder inserts, and they are cut above the shoulder. We also utilise gussets and leg arches to relieve any pressure on the shoulder, and we employ soft sheepskin wither protection to the universal and stable rugs.

What happens if I lose a strap, need extra ones or they break?

We will provide them, simply send an email, telephone or fax us at any time.

Do you offer a guarantee?
A
No, instead we offer a service where we will carry out any repairs needed to the rug at any time at labour cost only. It would be dangerous to the horse to provide an indestructible rug, there are points of stitching that will give under extreme pressure, such as when a horse has become trapped.

Can I buy the layers individually?
A
No, not at the outset. Once you are a customer then you can either replace or if you require extra layers, buy them individually. If you would like to buy one set, and perhaps just need another outdoor layer as well, then this is possible.
